A bit about membership...

Youth members of the Roundtable (and adult sponsors) are chosen for two-year terms (one year for high school seniors) through an application process of the conference's Youth and Young Adult Working Group (YAYA).  Click the comma above to go to the application on the conference website.  The applications are not meant to make this an exclusive group.  Rather, they are meant to encourage and ensure committed participation (on-line and in-person at 3-4 meetings per year).  Please send your completed application to this address by June 11th (note -- this is a "received by" deadline, not a postmark deadline):

Our first meeting...

Our first meeting will take place on Saturday, June 28th from 12-3 PM at Columbia U.C.C. in Columbia, MO.  For details, click on the "Our Events" tab above. 

The Youth Roundtable is the youth leadership group of the Missouri Mid-South Conference, United Church of Christ.  We are a group of youth who recognize that we are part of the present AND future of the church and that our perspectives are of vital importance in the life of our faith communities.  We are committed to active participation in the whole life of our churches and denomination.  (DESCRIPTION TO BE EDITED BY YOUTH PARTICIPANTS) 

The Roundtable was born out of a concern that although the Church encourages youth participation, often not enough is done to empower youth leadership.  The result has been youth programming that often seeks to entertain more than it seeks to honor how God might be speaking through its younger members in potentially earth-shattering ways -- ways that could reveal new paths for the life of the Church.  It is the desire of the conference's Youth and Young Adult Working Group (YAYA) to change this, working towards the YAYA mission statement goal of ensuring "fair and adequate representation" of youth among the governing voices of our conference by empowering youth to find and claim their voice in the RT, so that they might find and claim their voice in other settings of the United Church of Christ.  

The roundtable is intended as a place where youth can (1) find and claim their voice around issues our conference and national church are engaging, (2) become empowered to claim their voice on boards, councils and committees throughout the life of the U.C.C. and (3) provide suggestions and support to the Youth and Young Adult Working Group of the Conference (YAYA) regarding conference youth and young adult programming and other YAYA mission statement-related activities and involvement.
